ABOUT
Mexican Americans In Solidarity With Mexico, also known as Solidarity With Mexico or by the acronym MASM, is a non-profit organization devoted to promoting various forms of solidarity and cooperation between the Mexican American community and elements of Mexican civil society.
One of the guiding tenets of Solidarity With Mexico is the fundamental belief that, while the larger ethnic Mexican community is far from monolithic, Mexicans of all nationalities are ultimately connected by a shared historical, cultural, and political experience, and should therefore perceive of themselves as an integrated and indivisible community with common interests and a shared destiny.
As an organization, we are accordingly seeking to forge a new consciousness of solidarity with Mexico within Mexico’s U.S.-based diaspora. This new consciousness would be informed by an understanding of the enduring and immutable connection that exists between Mexican Americans and Mexican nationals as well as by a recognition of the importance of maintaining an active and informed connection to Mexico.
Other key components of our broader organizational mission include a commitment to promoting an informed understanding of Mexico in the United States, and to identifying and addressing any expressions or manifestations of anti-Mexican sentiment emanating from any source. Solidarity With Mexico is also committed to promoting respect for human rights and the rights of journalists and political activists both in Mexico and the United States, and to promoting the democratic reform of the Mexican political system.
Although we are, admittedly, in the nascent stages of our organizational evolution, we have begun the process of developing various media projects, and are also actively seeking to expand our primary membership as well as establish strategic alliances and formal affiliations with other organizations with similar or compatible goals both in Mexico and the United States.
